I consider myself of very fortunate circumstance to have found the Lotus Sutra at the time I did
The Lotus Sutra speaks to the heart of the reader. As such, the text is full of images, symbols and figurative language. The Lotus Sutra must be approached by one with Right View and proper spiritual foundation (eightfold path). Meditation of the 4 Noble Truths augment spiritual wisdom. After I studied the Pali Texts (Tipitika) for many years, I grabbed the Diamond That Cuts Through Illusion (Vajrachedika Prajna-Parimita Sutra). Once one is comfortable approaching and contemplating the perfection of wisdom sutras (Diamond Sutra, Heart Sutra, Lankavatara, etc), you are close to the perspective of approach to the Lotus Sutra.
The Perfection of Wisdom is Emptiness (sunyata). This is the purely Buddhist emptiness of inherent existence or, self. This is the ultimate understanding of interpenetrating connectedness of all things as energy flowing. This perspective illuminates Truth, Patience (endurance) and Kindness, in that causal relationships are and always will be innumerable.
The title of the Saddharma Pundrika Sutra guides our approach as well. The White Lotus Flower of the Wonderful Dharma (Law) suggests a "flowering" causal relationship where the result is beautiful/wonderful. Through our perspective of Truth (Emptiness), Endurance through Karma and Kindness- our victory is assured.
The Lotus Sutra is a cosmic teaching. It is the story of energy- the Enlightenment energy- through the whole cosmos and all ages of time. As all is a result of cause and condition, the fulfillment is complete within the vow!! Above all, approach with reverence...
much love to all sentient beings
